Additional Goodnight Moon Information

In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room--to the picture of the three little bears sitting in chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one--he says goodnight.

In this classic of modern children's literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.

What Customers Say About Goodnight Moon:

I got this book because of the rave reviews. When I read this to my 1st child and I think he was about 18 months old at the time, he was scared looking at the pictures. The sleepy 'rabbit' looked so small in the huge room and there where shadows everywhere. My child could be very sensitive because he was scared when I read 'Cat in the Hat' because the story is about a stranger in the house with the kids. I think at that time, he was between 1 to 2 years old.

My 16 month old just loves this book. It's a must read every night. He has learned to say cow and kitty from seeing them in this book. I don't know what it is about this book but kids are drawn to it.

Each page feels like the page that came before it, and thus it feels like it never ends. The book is simple enough to inspire her to read. I hate reading it. I mean, one of the things I love about children's books is the vibrant colors and the crazy art inside.

But, as much as I hate the book itself, I absolutely adore what it has done for my daughter.Yes, no matter how I feel about the book in general, I must admit that it has had some wonderful affects on my child. To be honest (and you know I always am), I really hate this book. When we first got the book and my daughter was too young to really react and or repeat anything I was saying I found the book a nightmare to get through, but now that she does repeat and say pretty much word in the book it is not such a pain. If this were a book I read and not my daughter it would have a D at best, but the expression on her face when we read this before bedtime says it all. Sure, she is not yet two and so she isn't quite READING yet, but the simple wording and straightforward pictures have caused my daughter to learn what it is she is saying `goodnight' to.

They could modernize this with some nice illustrations too. I'm giving it a B. I find it boring and redundant and mind numbing almost. This book is rather dull in that regard. As a parent I can say that there is nothing more rewarding than watching your child learn and grow, and regardless of how much I hate this book as an adult I can see why she loves it and watching her love it makes me love it.Does that make any sense. If you have children I'm sure you get what I'm saying. Now, I will tell you just why I'm not the biggest fan of the book itself.

I do find the illustrations to be very old fashioned and the overly simple nature of the story (there is no story) leads to redundancy. So, in the end; it is a great learning tool and it is a book that your little one will enjoy very much, but I urge you to wait until they are a bit older and can actually learn something from the book; that way it won't be such a bore.I can't give this a really poor rating because it's not a book for me. To her it is an A, but really, it could have been a lot better.

I'm curious why the author created such inconsistencies (unrealistic for a balloon, ok for a moving mouse)- were these just errors that happened upon publishing that were never corrected. My son will point to where the balloon is and then where the balloon should be on another page.

As soon as we started reading this book together, it became one of his favorites. Although I personally did not grow up with this book in my library, I've enjoyed getting to know it with my son.

At 17 months old, he was pointing out the inconsistencies- from one picture to the next, the red balloon and its string will disappear and then reappear. The bright colors and the variety of items to pick out and name make it entertaining.

I am curious to see if others have run into the same thing: my son likes balloons a lot, so the "red balloon" was definitely a focus point. Has anyone else run into this.

Nevertheless, we still enjoy the book (glad to see his eye for detail) and recommend it.

the colors and drawings are quite dated. i just don't get the appeal of this book. i read Margaret Wise Brown's other book, the Big Red Barn, and i much prefer it to Goodnight Moon. i would hate to read this night after night to my daughter. after reading through it a few times, i am glad i did not buy it.
